A field trip is a visit to an area outside of the normal classroom by children can try new things. Field trip provide alternative educational opportunities for students and can benefit the community is they include some type of community service. It also provides students the opportunity to take a break from their normal routine and experience more hands-on learning .It is seen that field trips provide a common ground with more advantages and disadvantages students to have some of the same cultural experience in the arts
As a part of the B.ed curriculum we the first year students of Kaviyattu College of Education (202-23) went for a field trip on 21st December 2021 to Neyyardam Government Higher Secondary School,Neyyardam,Neyyar wildlife sanctuary,Neyyar Deer Rehabilitation centre, Crocodile Rehabilitation and Research Centre, Kottur Elephant Rehabilitation Centre. 'ITVARA' was the name given for our field trip.
There were around 50 students of English,Mathematics ,Natural science,Physical science,Social science, and Commerce optionals. The number of teachers who accompanied the student was about seven. The coordinators of the field trip took the numbers of students present and we all get into the bus that was parcked near the entrance. It was a one day trip. The journey began at 8:30 a.m. from the entrance of a college. We reached our first destination at about 10.00 a.m. The first place that we visited was Government Higher Secondary School near Neyyar Dam. With the permission of school headmistress, we entered into the school. The School have an open air Auditorium closer to the entrance of the gate and we all assembled there. We had a plan to contribute something to the children studying there. So we have collected some studying materials such as not books, pens pencils et.. we organised a small function to hand over the collected materials. The headmistress gave us the permission to enter the classroom without making any disturbance to the ongoing classes. So without interrupting the classes we visited some of the classes and have some conversation with the student . Due to the pandemic situation the number of students in each class is less. The students are provided with the high-tech classrooms and some of the classes have a reading corner like any library. We spend around an hour there. The changes or development of government school is clearly visible there. An ordinary classroom facility to a high-tech classroom is one of the happiest thing saw there.By 11 a.m. we entered Neyyar Dam. There is an entry fee of 15 rupees per head. The dam is situated at Kallikkad Panchayat of Kattakada Taluk. It is a gravity dam on the Neyyar river. We moved to the dam top .On the way to the dam top we saw a post office, the generator room and Neyyar irrigation project house. The atmosphere is will calm and refreshing. In between so many tribal sculpture was also there. Finally we reached the entrance of the dum top.We walked through the dam top. We can't spend more time there as it was very hot weather . While moving we can see the beautiful view of the dam.To the left side in a long distance we can see the name board of lions safari park.To the right side the beautiful overview of neyyardam. The steps taken us to the other end of the dam top. In between there are small shop having sweets and salted mangoes, gooseberries etc.. to sell.Together we moved to the crocodile farm near the dam. On the way to the farm saw the some of sapling were planted according to the birth stars. A sign board was also provided to understand.
BIRTH STARS GARDEN
We reached crocodile farm and saw them. They were kept in seperate cages having water pools. We saw the efforts that put forward by the authority to preserve these crocodiles. After that we together moved to the entrance area .This was the first time we all had our lunch together.
CORCODILE
After spending a wonderful time at Neyyar dam, we went to Deer Rehabilitation center. It is a part of Neyyar wildlife sanctuary. It is an eco friendly atmosphere. There was nothing more to see there. Just deers inside a fully fenced place. The deers can be viewed only from outside.
After that we went to Elephant Rehabilitation center, Kottur. It spread over 56 kilometres, the elephant center in kottur is surrounded by trenches on all side checking those surprise intrusions from the wild out there.
All of us got engaged in taking photos and enjoyed the beauty of the place.By 4.00.pm we returned from there.By 6.30 pm the students and teachers reached the college. Then from there all of us went back to our homes. The whole trip was a pleasant experience.Through this trip we got a relaxation for our mind from the stressed usual days. This trip gifted us a memorable day among our college days.
